We all need a vacation from time to time to recharge our batteries. Taking time for ourselves is so important to keep our mental health in check – otherwise you are bound to drive yourself crazy! Taking some time away from your work can relax your mind and body, which in the long run, can improve your overall health.
We get it though. vacation can cost money, and most of the time, money you don’t have. Not to worry, though, there are a ton of budget friendly weekend getaways you can take that won’t cost much, but will be exactly what you need.
The beach
The beach is always a great idea! Even if you get a room for one night on a nearby shore, the beach has healing powers like none other. Grab a beach chair and a good book and let the sound of the waves take you away. You don’t need to spend a ton of money when you go on a short beach getaway. A beach getaway is ideal if you’re within driving distance from an ocean – figure within a 3-4 hour drive. If not, there are plenty of other alternatives for a budget friendly weekend getaway.
The mountains
Well, if you’re not close to an ocean, maybe you’re closer to a mountain! There’s nothing as tranquil and relaxing then waking up to the peaceful sounds of nature. If you’re looking for a way to refresh your mind and body, this is definitely the way! Similar to the beach, you don’t have to spend a lot of money to enjoy a night or two tucked away in a mountain somewhere, just make sure it’s within driving distance to avoid airfare!
Rent an RV and go camping
RV’s and camping spots can be extremely affordable during the off season. In fact it can sometimes be cheaper than a decent hotel room. And if you have kids it will make for some great memories. You can even head down to a local camp spot so that you dont have to drive far.
Nearby towns
Perhaps there is a town nearby you have not explored yet. Plan an overnighter and head out early Saturday morning. You can plan out your trip in advance using the town’s website or you can just take advantage of apps like Yelp to find new places along the way. Explore trails, parks, historic locations, malls, or the downtown area. Be sure to ask the folks at the hotel what their recommendations are for other visitors. Many hotels have brochures in the lobby for local places and activities.
Staycation
So let’s say you don’t live near a mountain or an ocean – take a staycation! Yea, you can act like a tourist in the town you live in. All you have to do is book a hotel for one or two nights, pack a back, and leave for the weekend! Pretend you don’t live there and enjoy the city a bit. Lay out by the hotel pool with a cocktail, order room service, just do nothing as best as you can!
